Overview: EAs and CPAs have reported Ransomware attacks. In one case, the result was the loss of all Word files on hand, including client and IRS correspondence and notes. The pro’s backup software overwrote the good files with the bad before the situation was understood.  Learn how to protect your practice from this and other increasing threats to data security. James Hade is an IRS special agent in Oakland specializing in computer security.  This evening meeting will include networking, dinner and 1 hour of tax education.

Speaker: Special Agent James Hade will introduce us to IRS Criminal Investigation and show us how it works to help protect taxpayer information. He will advise us on the growing threat of all the varieties of identity theft. He will advise us on the threat of the Dark Web. He will outline IRS’ actions to combat it, including issues that affect us directly in working with tax preparation software. He will introduce the biggest weakness in protecting personal information. He will detail the various methods used to obtain that information, including Phishing, Ransomware, etc. he will let us know what we can do to Safeguard Client Data. He will give us resources in case data is stolen from us.
